0. Before the Lab
Compared to the original OpenFish, we have modified the model into a simplified version for you to print. Please refer to the "Open Fish CAD Files (Simplified V2.0)" model on Canvas.
- Changes in Version 1.0 (Simplified) compared to Original OpenFish:
- Removed steering mechanism
- Removed position adjustment rail from bottom fish body and redesigned motor and gearbox assembly mounting
- Made other minor modifications
- Changes in Version 2.0 (Simplified) compared to Version 1.0:
- Redesigned "Part #17_v2_1" for improved gearbox mechanism stability
- Added screws and nuts to the CAD model
- Other parts remain unchanged
Depending on the version, you may see a "-org" or "-V2.0" suffix, which can be ignored.
Prepare all the following parts before the Assembling Lab:

4. Assignment (DUE: MAR 24th 2025)
You only need to show a working gearbox assembly for this lab.
- A video demo showing your working gearbox assembly
- The gearbox assembly is assembled
- The motor is rotating (either the motor is rotating or your hand is moving the shaft)
- Bonus if you use the IOT control method that you learnt in the DC motor control Lab
- The two larger gears are rotating as designed.
